The extended involvement of the American military in combat situations in Iraq and Afghanistan have brought to the forefront our need to consider the unique and difficult circumstances our military and their families face before, during, and after deployment. I recently joined my Senate colleagues in a bipartisan plan to extend tax credits for renewable energy that without congressional action will expire at the end of this year. The National Guard: An Important Tool to Protect Our Border

I hear regularly from many of my New Mexico constituents who are forced to consistently deal with illegal entries into our country. To maintain our border security, I recently introduced legislation to continue Operation Jump Start on the Southwest border and broaden the overall role of the National Guard in border security activities. Sandia Wilderness Celebrates 30th Anniversary

New Mexico's Sandia Mountain Wilderness area recently marked its 30 year anniversary on Feb. 24. This designation, which I helped secure in 1978, during my first term in office, is the highest level of wilderness protection bestowed by Congress. Read more

U.S. Senator Pete Domenici met with representatives from the Diary Producers of New Mexico to discuss issues and legislation that could affect the industry, and announced his request for FY2009 funding for a new consortium to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the industry in the Southwest.
